Dear Friends of MCV,
Inspired by local artists and urged on by our audiences, we are very happy to announce the release of our newest CD, 'On Christmas Day', featuring 75 minutes of old favorites such as Silent Night, First Noel, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World, and many many more.
These tunes are both raucous and reflective, joyous and poignant as is the holiday season itself. We hope that you will listen to them with family and loved ones, break out the Holly and the Ivy, the Wooden Soldiers and of course the Nutcrackers. 'God and man today become / More in tune than fife and drum / So be merry while you play / Tu-re-lu-re-lu, pat-a-pat-a-pan!'
Happy Holidays!
Middlesex County Volunteers (MCV) was established in 1982 toward the close of the U.S. Bicentennial by Boston-area musicians who wished to further explore the traditional repertoires of the regimental fife and drum corps' associated with the European or American armies during the American War for Independence, 1775-1783. Today we have evolved into a repertory ensemble performing martial, dance, and folk music drawn from 17th, 18th, and early 19th century sources in America and Europe.
They have performed extensively throughout Boston, New England, and the eastern United States at historic sites and town celebrations, and frequently perform at state functions welcoming foreign dignitaries. They have performed with John Williams and Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra for the July 4 evening programs before a half a million spectators and millions of TV viewers throughout the world. They have produced six recordings including their latest, a holiday CD "On Christmas Day". In summer 2001 they toured England and France, appearing at the palace at Versailles and the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach in Normandy and made their fifth recording, "Lafayette's Ghost", while in London. Closer to home, they perform at many parades, festivals and Fife & Drum musters throughout the year. See their calendar for where you can find them next.
